The abiotic factors of Monteverde are most heavily influenced by the climate. The average temperature in the rain forest ranges from 61-64°F (16-18°C). The annual rainfall is 118 inches (with a dry season from December to March). The area recieves limited sunlight due to the abundant amount of canopy trees that prevent the water from reaching the ground. The area is constantly consumed in dense fog that somewhat resembles clouds, earning it the name "Cloud Forest", which also results in 100% humidity nearly year-round.
